Luis Ocasio
Luis has been drumming since age 2 (there will eventually be a video posted as proof). Luis first started drumming with Latin percussion instruments such as congas, bongos, and timbales. Luis has played in many different musical settings that range from salsa bands and jazz combos to musical theater.
Luis spent two years studying orchestral percussion at a local community college. While there, he won the FSCAA Winter Symposium competition for solo percussion.
Luis spent two more years at the University of North Florida to acquire his Bachelors of Jazz Studies degree while studying under Danny Gottlieb. Luis is also proud to have received instruction from Lynne Arriale, Dennis Marks, and David Steinmeyer while attending UNF.
Luis was awarded a full ride scholarship to the University of Miami. While there, he studied under Dafnis Prieto, Steve Rucker, and David Chiverton for his Masters degree in Jazz Studies.
